By Mridula Ranjan
My name is Mridula (Mree-du-la), and I lead Engineering and Technology Operations for Real-Time Payments globally at Mastercard.
My journey began in 2001 when I arrived in the UK with two suitcases, a burning desire, and a “never give up” attitude. I had little to lose—but everything to gain through perseverance and belief in myself.
I started my career as a software developer in the Midlands—often the only woman and Asian on the IT floor. Over time, I transitioned into project management and went on to lead engineering and payments technology functions across HSBC, Barclays, BTMU, NatWest, and now Mastercard.
My career has had its share of challenges and defining moments, but one constant has been my resilience and passion for using technology to drive meaningful transformation. I have had the privilege of helping modernise critical payments ecosystems—building resilient, scalable platforms that deliver real business impact.
Equally important is how we lead. I believe leadership is a privilege. My approach is rooted in servant leadership—creating environments where teams feel empowered, included, and able to thrive. Building diverse, high-performing teams and fostering a culture where every voice is heard has been central to everything I do.
Having led global teams, I’ve learned that culture is the foundation of transformation. When it is right, performance and innovation follow.
I am deeply committed to paying forward the support I’ve received. As a mother of two daughters, I strongly align with TechWomen4Boards’ vision of enabling more women to lead and influence at the highest levels.
Being nominated is both humbling and meaningful. If my journey shows anything, it’s this: with resilience and determination, it is possible to go from two suitcases to building a life beyond what you imagined.
I am truly grateful and honoured.
