Charting the Course: My TechWomen4Boards Finalist Story

By Lala Bregvadze

I have always been drawn to complex problems—the kind that do not fit neatly into a single discipline and cannot be solved from only one perspective.

That curiosity led me through law, business, technology, academia and banking. I conducted research at the University of Groningen, studied Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship at Cornell University, completed an MBA, and earned international qualifications in compliance, sanctions and digital assets. Each experience added a different lens, but together they shaped a single interest: understanding how innovation can be transformed into something trusted, practical and sustainable.

Today, as Chief Compliance Officer of a programmable bank, I work at the intersection of technology, finance, governance and innovation. We are building banking infrastructure designed for a rapidly evolving digital economy, where traditional financial services increasingly interact with digital assets, automation, global platforms and new forms of financial technology.

What excites me most is that many of the questions we face do not yet have established answers. New products and technologies often emerge long before regulations, standards or market practices fully develop. In those moments, the challenge is not simply compliance with existing rules. It is finding solutions that allow innovation to move forward responsibly while maintaining trust, resilience and integrity.

Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work on initiatives that required balancing commercial objectives, technological possibilities and regulatory expectations. These experiences reinforced my belief that innovation and governance are not opposing forces. When designed thoughtfully, they strengthen each other.

Being shortlisted for TechWomen4Boards is particularly meaningful because it recognizes women contributing to the future of industries that are being reshaped in real time. It is also a reminder of the value of interdisciplinary thinking. Some of the most impactful solutions emerge not from a single field of expertise, but from the ability to connect different worlds and create bridges between them.

As technology continues to transform finance and society, I remain inspired by the opportunity to help build frameworks that enable progress, create trust and turn ambitious ideas into sustainable realities.
