My Story: Nadiia Vasylieva
Charting the Course: My TechWomen4Boards Finalist Story
by Nadiia Vasylieva
I’ve always been drawn to challenges where structure meets ambiguity – where institutions are expected to lead, but the path forward isn’t clear. That’s the space where digital innovation matters most.
My career began in commercial tech and strategy roles, including at Motorola in the 1990s and later as General Manager at Microsoft. But I’ve always gravitated to complexity – government platforms, sovereign systems, sectors facing disruption. I’ve since served on national boards, including as Chair of Audit at Crédit Agricole CIB, led public-private transformation across Europe, and helped shape governance frameworks for AI and digital infrastructure.
As a Fulbright Scholar and current researcher at MIT Sloan, I focus on aligning institutional resilience with emerging technologies and regulatory clarity. One defining chapter was at Ukroboronprom – the state defence-industrial holding – where I helped lead the digital transformation of 138 legacy enterprises. We aligned fractured operations, embedded transparency, and introduced dual-use innovation frameworks – all while balancing national security and institutional reform.
It taught me that resilience must be designed into systems, not bolted on after the fact. What defines my leadership style is pragmatic foresight. I use academic frameworks to assess cultural maturity and structural misalignment – then apply commercial logic to translate strategy into execution. That dual perspective has helped me scale multi-country reforms while maintaining delivery integrity.
I joined TechWomen4Boards because I believe boardrooms need more than diverse backgrounds – they need lived complexity. Women who’ve navigated multi-stakeholder systems, who can speak to regulators and engineers in the same meeting, and who understand that transformation without traction is just theatre.
Looking ahead, I’m focused on contributing as a strategic board or operational presence – especially where technology, resilience, and public interest intersect. I bring not only a record of leading through volatility but a belief that governance, done well, can be both an anchor and an engine.”
